ART KEUKENHOF

Keukenhof is the most beautiful spring park in the world. In addition to the millions of blooming flowers, Keukenhof has offered many artists the opportunity to display their works in this colourful environment since the official opening in 1949. Over the years, the park has built up a beautiful collection of statuary including works by artists such as Nic Jonk, André Volten, Carlo van Kervel and more recently “Ode to Rembrandt” by Jan Wolkers. Also a collection of 150 art objects have been composed by Mrs. Ansèl Sandberg (for example  'Migrant' from Kees van der Ven). Since 2008, all of the artistic activities at Keukenhof have been combined under the title ART KEUKENHOF.

In 2010, more than 100 artists will exhibit their works in the park.

The fashion exhibition Gone with the wind (18 March to 16 May 2010) in the Juliana pavilion focuses on the creative ideas of the Dutch fashion world. The organisation of this exhibition is in the hands of the Zuiderzeemuseum, where it was first on display in 2009.

Gone with the Wind exhibits a selection of traditional costumes and contemporary fashions from the Zuiderzeemuseum collection. Dozens of Dutch fashion and jewellery designers and photographers were inspired by the characteristic Dutch regional costumes. Examples include: a 'kraplap' [traditional starched shoulder covering] as contemporary accessory and an interpretation of the Staphorst stippling technique. Outfits by Francisco van Benthum, Alexander van Slobbe, Spijkers & Spijkers and Viktor & Rolf are also on display. Also part of the exhibition is a jewellery design by Ted Noten, where the traditional Urk men's earring blends with the street culture of today. Fashion designer Jan Taminiau created a bridal gown and matching suit for the exhibition.

Art and culture have played an important part at Keukenhof from day one. The floral splendour forms a magnificent decor for the fashion exhibition Gone with the Wind. Keukenhof is the showcase of the Dutch horticultural industry, with the emphasis on flowering bulbs. The exhibitions and events in the park interrelate a host of Dutch items in the field of culture and the arts. Unexpected approaches highlight various aspects of contemporary and classic designs alike.
