Falconry demonstrations on 6, 7, 8 and 9 April
A unique collection of birds of prey will be used to demonstrate how these birds live and fly in the wild. The shows start at 12:00 noon and 2:30 p.m. Location: Lenteweide, Keukenhof.|
The falconry demonstrations are provided by ‘De Valk Roofvogels’ of Lunteren. During these 45-minute demonstrations some 15 different species of birds of prey and owls will be flown. Several members of the public will be invited to assist the falconer. They will be given a special glove to wear on which a bird of prey will land.
The birds of prey being flown at Keukenhof are the Peregrine Falcon, American Kestrel, European Kestrel, Red-tailed Hawk, Barn Owl, Spotted Wood-owl, various Horned Owls and Eagle-owls, one of which has a wingspan of nearly two metres, impressive and rare eagles such as the Chilean Blue Eagle and the Bateleur and four American Hawks that will be flown in a group. New birds will also be demonstrated, such as the Red-legged Seriema, the American Bald Eagle (the national symbol of the United States) and the comical Falklands Caracara and Crested Caracara.
