Lisse, the Netherlands: At 11.00 am on Thursday 14 October, His Excellency Mr Behr, German ambassador to the Netherlands, joined forces with Keukenhof to add the final touches to the flower bulb mosaic of the Brandenburger Tor. The mosaic presents an impression of the Brandenburger Tor in Berlin. The mosaic measures 23 by 13 metres and has been created from almost 100,000 flower bulbs. Its colourful splendour will reveal itself in all its floral glory in the spring of 2011.
The planting of Brandenburger Tor on Thursday 14 October again highlighted the autumn planting of bulbs at Keukenhof. Over the next few months, approximately seven million flower bulbs will be planted in the park. Anyone on the look-out for unique bulbs to plant in their own garden could find what they need at Keukenhof’s National Flower Bulb Market.
In 2011, Keukenhof will be open from 24 March until 20 May.
