Strolling through the park visitors get inspired to accomplish the same in their own gardens. Everyone would love to have a sparkling ribbon of spring flowers winding through the garden, a river of blue Muscari nestled among the trees or perhaps a border in which the most special tulips show their beauty.
To give a more specific impression how surprisingly different flower bulbs can be used in a domestic garden, Keukenhof has created seven Inspirational Gardens. The gardens ranging in size from 50 to 120 m², each has their own feel and trend, modern to romantic, robust to sweet. Click here for more information about the trends of 2011.......
It is possible for everyone to enjoy these Spring beauties at home. The active gardener makes plans in the
Autumn and plants the bulbs before the end of November. For those who missed this planting moment bulbs already planted in pots can be bought and easily planted in the garden or in flowerpots on the terrace or balcony.![]()
The gardens are inhibited by the Van Beieren family. The family members explain how they have fulfilled their green dreams. These wonderful Inspirational Gardens are situated near the mill.
At the bottom of this page detailed reports on each garden, including planting scheme, garden design, furniture and media.
-------
The historical garden is one of the most striking Keukenhof attractions. An oasis that lives and breathes the atmosphere of a historic castle garden. Various collections of historical spring bulbs and tuberous plants are on display, including old tulip varieties from the Hortus Bulborum and 17th-century daffodils. Species that were sometimes cultivated for hundreds of years and are now almost impossible to buy. It is an unknown fact that, in early spring, this is also the warmest spot in Keukenhof, on the benches lining the slate wall.
In our historical garden we have recently added the reconstruction of eight flowerbeds from the oldest Dutch Botanical garden, the Hortus botanicus in Leiden (from 1590). Under the watchful eye of founder Carolus Clusius, albeit in the form of a bust, ancient varieties of tulips and crocus, anemones, fritillaria and lilies are in glorious bloom. A visit to the historical garden is a walk through the highpoints of Dutch flower bulb history.
Theme: country life
Working hard all week, I love to stay at home during the weekends.
Adoring nature, the flowers and the bees, my lush green garden reflects the quit country life of yesteryear. The perfect place to relax, but relaxation by means of effort, because I enjoy digging into the earth!
Rob’s Big Garden Renovation
This garden was designed and created by Rob Verlinden and his team for the TV program Rob’s Big Garden Renovation of SBS 6. Rob wants to inspire people with this garden, to create a garden themselves, because a garden is a place to live and work in, to relax and have cheerful meals. Such a real green garden is what we humans absolutely need to make contact with nature.
Theme: an aromatic experience
Ahhh, all those flowers. Aren’t they beautiful?
Yes, I do it myself. Well, with a little help from my gardener of course, since I am not as young as I used to be. I order my bulbs from various websites. That way, the whole lot is delivered right to my doorstep and we can get started straightaway. It keeps us busy for several days.
Theme: the creative gardener
As you can see I have made something special. The corten steel terrace is the base of the garden design. Around the terrace I have created borders that accentuate this specific shape. After a hard day of gardeners work one can sit on the couch and enjoy a cup of tea under the bent willow stems.
Theme: trendy green city
I moved here five years ago. I grew up in the bulb-growing region myself. Even then I enjoyed flowers, trees, birds – I loved everything about being outside. I want to pass that on to my girls. After spending all day indoors, we can’t wait to get outside and enjoy the garden.
Theme: living near the waterside
Tired of our hectic city life, we moved to the country last year. Instead of our small city balcony, we now enjoy a real garden with a delightfully large deck overlooking the water. The advantage of living here is that we can completely relax every evening when we come home – and all through the weekend.
