Visitors from all over the world as well as theNetherlandswill be visiting the Keukenhof international flower exhibition over the Easter holiday. The park is in full flower and wonderful shows can be seen in the pavilions. The Oranje Nassau Pavilion is jam-packed with roses!
Keukenhof is the ideal place for kicking off your Easter holiday in style. The park has lots of extra activities to offer during this holiday period.
Falconry demonstrations on 6, 7, 8 and 9 April
A unique collection of birds of prey will be used to demonstrate how these birds live and fly in the wild. The shows start at 12:00 noon and 2:30 p.m. Location: Lenteweide, Keukenhof.
The falconry demonstrations are provided by ‘De Valk Roofvogels’ of Lunteren. During these 45-minute demonstrations some 15 different species of birds of prey and owls will be flown. Several members of the public will be invited to assist the falconer. They will be given a special glove to wear on which a bird of prey will land.
The birds of prey being flown at Keukenhof are the Peregrine Falcon, American Kestrel, European Kestrel, Red-tailed Hawk, Barn Owl, Spotted Wood-owl, various Horned Owls and Eagle-owls, one of which has a wingspan of nearly two metres, impressive and rare eagles such as the Chilean Blue Eagle and the Bateleur and four American Hawks that will be flown in a group. New birds will also be demonstrated, such as the Red-legged Seriema, the American Bald Eagle (the national symbol of the United States) and the comical Falklands Caracara and Crested Caracara.
Easter Monday at Keukenhof for Early Birds
The park will open even earlier than usual on Easter Monday, 9 April. At 7:00 a.m. the early birds among us will have the opportunity of seeing the flowers open and the animals in the park awaken. Keukenhof is a true paradise for film makers, photographers and people seeking peace and quiet. At dawn in particular the park provides a magical backdrop for film and photo.
And you don’t need to make your own breakfast, as the Keukenhof chefs are preparing a special breakfast that will be served between 8:00 and 10:00 a.m. in the Willem Alexander Pavilion. Early birds who enter the park before 8:00 a.m. pay half the entry price (€7.25 for adults and €3.50 for children). The spring breakfast prepared by Keukenhof chefs is available till 10:00 a.m. and costs €10.00 for adults and €5.00 for children.
Easter Monday is Hat Day at Keukenhof
On Easter Monday, Keukenhof traditionally becomes the Manhattanof the Bollenstreek. The Easter Parade is not a tradition of the same calibre as that inNew York - yet - but the enthusiasm of the organisers and visitors is fantastic. The show with extravagant hats is not only about ‘seeing and being seen’; it is also a tribute to the craftsmanship of the hat maker. Visitors can parade their own hats at Keukenhof too, whether they are store-bought or home-made.
Visitors can participate in hat decorating between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. (spring hat with a flower arrangement). Of course you can decorate your own hat if you wish. The price is €10.00 for an adult’s hat and €7.50 for a child’s hat.
On of the most successful events on Easter Monday (9 April) is the annual international hat show. Jackie Habets of What’s Up (Schiedam andAntwerp) is organising this event in the park for the seventh time. Professional international hat designers will present spectacular flower hats on the catwalk in the Willem Alexander Pavilion. The second show will be followed by the Easter Parade (the Hat Parade) through the park for a group photo.
The fabulous hat shows will be held at 2:00, 3:00 and 4:00 p.m. Location: Willem Alexander Pavilion, Keukenhof.
Easter Bunny to visit Keukenhof
On the way the children come across all kinds of exciting things to play with. A toadstool, a snail’s shell, a wigwam and tunnel made of willow shoots that you crawl through are just some of the fun things to see and do. Brave kids can climb up to the top of the windmill and see across the entire park, or they can cross the stepping stones across the pond.
They can also get lost in the maze in the new Miffy playground and enjoy petting the animals in the paddock and the children’s farm.
On Easter Sunday and Monday you will be sure to meet a real Easter Bunny there too!
